Inmersión lingüística. Oliva'24

La semana del 6 al 12 de octubre de 2024 quedará en nuestros corazones para siempre ya que 25 alumnos/as de 6º, la maestra Bibiana y yo hemos tenido la oportunidad de compartir una intensa y maravillosa semana de convivencia que nunca olvidarán.

Durante esta semana hemos compartido vivencias con el alumnado de la Escola San Bernat Calvó de Vila-seca en Tarragona.

Este mes de agosto recibimos la noticia de haber sido seleccionados para participar en este programa subvencionado por el Ministerio de Educación y ciencia y dirigido a alumnado de sexto de primaria.

El aprendizaje y perfeccionamiento de la lengua inglesa y de su cultura se han visto completados por un crecimiento muy importante a nivel personal de cada uno/a de ellos/as.

Damos la enhorabuena al alumnado por su magnífico comportamiento en estos días y el aprovechamiento de la semana.

Esperamos que nunca olvidéis estos momentos vividos y que os sirva para continuar afianzando esta lengua.

Hello Navodita

 Este mes de octubre tenemos la suerte de contar con Navodita, nuestra nueva auxiliar de conversación procedente de India que estará en nuestro centro hasta final del mes de mayo.

La primera de las sesiones ha estado dedicada a explicarnos un poquito más de su país de procedencia. Seguro que será un período muy aprovechable en el que mejoraremos nuestra lengua inglesa.

En el día de hoy, Amy ha finalizado su paso por nuestro colegio. Desde octubre a mayo, han sido unos meses maravillosos en los que el alumnado y profesorado ha podido disfrutar de las magníficas sesiones de trabajo con Amy nuestra risueña auxiliar.

Muchísimas gracias por todo lo que nos has enseñado.

Let's have fun in Science. Experiments have been an important part of this unit, but we cannot forget that creating a final project like this  is easy and useful for the children. They organize their ideas and practice their English with Amy.

Project: Ecosystems in 3rd grade

Children learn better when they do projects in class. This is why, they have carried out a project related to ecosystems: Living things, physical environment and their relationships.

The idea was to explore creativity and to introduce their work orally to their partners.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

"Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"?

Have you ever heard the two phrases Merry Christmas and Happy Christmas and wondered what the difference is?  Well, they’re basically the same! Merry is an adjective that describes being full of joy and having a cheerful, joyful spirit. Happy is an adjective that can mean content, glad, or delighted.

Merry Christmas is the greeting that is most common in America, whereas Happy Christmas is the more popular greeting in the United Kingdom.  Feel free to use either phrase, all English speakers will understand you! 🎄

During the last week of classes in December, the 1st-6th grade classes and I had a very merry time learning about Christmas in the United States while practicing our English!

In 1st and 2nd grade, students learned the English lyrics to the popular song "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." We did a little dance while singing to remember the meaning of the words, and of course to have fun!

In 2nd and 3rd grade, after practicing winter-related vocabulary, we created our own Santas with paper, sparkly foam board, and cotton balls. 

In 4th, 5th, and 6th grade, I gave a short presentation about the common tradition of children writing letters to Santa. In the letters, children say if they have been naughty or nice during the year, and they tell Santa what presents they hope to receive for Christmas.

We brainstormed relevant vocabulary as a group, and then students wrote their very own Dear Santa letters! I was very impressed with all of the students' eagnerness to read their letters out loud to the class, building their confidence while speaking in English.

Learn an American Children's Game! "Miss Mary Mack"

 As a Conversation Assistant, one thing I love to do is share games with students that I used to play when I was their age.  At recess (el recreo), it was common for students to play hand-clapping 👏 games.  One example of such a game is "Miss Mary Mack."  The words don't have a deeper meaning - it's simply a fun and silly song that rhymes. 

Below you can see how the game is played.  Try it at home with your students!

Halloween en nuestro cole

 Como centro bilingüe que somos, el alumnado ha podido aprender y experimentar una de las costumbres anglosajonas: Halloween.

Desde la pasada semana, Amy, nuestra auxiliar de conversación nos ha explicado el origen de dicha celebración y hemos realizado juegos en clase. La actividad no se ha limitado a un solo día ni a una parcela ya que se han realizado juegos en la biblioteca, taller de antorchas terroríficas, lectura de cuentos en clase, biblioteca y patios, cine forum....

Todo ello ha culminado con una mañana divertida llena de brujas, piratas, fantasmas... que han inundado nuestro cole y han hecho que conozcamos de primera mano esta tradición de habla inglesa.

Muchas gracias a tod@s l@s que habéis hecho posible que esta celebración se haya llevado a cabo.

No olvidemos nunca nuestras tradiciones y celebremos también nuestro particular 1 de noviembre, día de los Santos.

Meet Amy! This year's English Conversation Assistant

Hello, San Miguel community!  

My name is Amy Mardis, and I'm excited to be working at your school this year as your English Conversation Assistant.  I grew up in the United States, but I see the broader world as my home.  My passions for education and travel have brought me here to Armilla, Spain for the 2023-2024 school year, where I'll be working with students in 1st-6th grades.

Throughout the year, I'll be helping students to practice their listening and speaking skills in English, in addition to sharing relevant cultural traditions from the United States.  Along the way, I know I will learn so much from you all as well.

Thank you for welcoming me into your school, and I look forward to a great school year!

Bye, bye Christina!

 El lunes finalizó el tiempo en el que nuestra auxiliar de conversación Christina ha estado con nosotr@s en el centro.

Ha sido un período en el que el alumnado de educación primaria ha disfrutado de las sesiones con ella. Hemos hecho juegos, hemos aprendido vocabulario, expresiones.... las ciencias sociales y naturales han sido un poquito más interesantes si cabe.

Esperemos que te vaya muy bien Christina.

Happy Halloween!

In class this week we learned that Halloween started as a Celtic festival to mark the beginning of winter and the end of autumn. Celtic people thought spirits would visit them during Halloween. Today, we dress up in silly costumes, go trick-o-treating, and we eat lots of candy! In class, we did some small activities, like Halloween bingo, coloring our own monster and creating a Frankenstein dice!

Bienvenida Cristina

Esta semana contamos con una incorporación al colegio muy especial: Christina Trujillo es nuestra nueva auxiliar de conversación y estará con nosotros hasta el 31 de mayo.

Ella nos acompañará en las sesiones de Ciencias desde 1º a 6º. Es Estadounidense y seguro que será fantástico aprender con ella.
